Join artist Lewis Prosser for a hands-on introduction to basket weaving. This workshop will guide you through the process of creating a sturdy, stylised shopper basket with a wooden base and handle, perfect for daily use. Inspired by traditional Polish asymmetric-style baskets and British fruit baskets, you’ll learn essential weaving techniques in a simplified way, including preparing materials, staking up, wailing, randing, slewing, and closing off an asymmetric border.
All materials and tools will be provided. No prior experience necessary—this is an introductory session.
Please note: Basket weaving requires dexterity and can be physically demanding on the hands.
About the tutor:
Lewis Prosser is an absurdist basketmaker and artist whose practice explores
the intersection of craft and culture. His work focuses on the intangible
heritage of basketry, applying traditional techniques in contemporary contexts.
Through teaching, Lewis aims to reconnect people with the land, pass down
traditional skills, and encourage new interpretations for the modern day. His
work ‘Making Merrie’ is currently on display in Safle Celf at Galeri
Caernarfon.
