Who we are:

Archwilwyr Jazz Explorers is a project developed by Cymru Jazz Wales, a network of freelance jazz/creative musicians and partner organisations including Ty Cerdd, music services and venues, and funded by Arts Council of Wales’ Connect and Flourish programme.

The project will research and test new models for collaborative working between freelance musicians and live music promotion, education and learning settings across Wales. This is one of three pilot partnership projects in different parts of the country which will be used to inform strategies to inspire interest and engagement by audiences and young people and build sustainable careers for Welsh jazz and creative artists.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a Welsh based jazz ensemble/group of jazz musicians, familiar with working together, with an interest in working with young people aged 14-18, to introduce them to and develop their interest in jazz through performance/creative workshops. The project will involve an initial workshop with up to 20 young people, two mid-project visits to the groups and a final session, of which the culmination of the project will be a performance of jazz inspired music by the young people involved, together with the lead jazz artists. Two tutors, arranged by the partner organisation, will be present at each of these events and will deliver regular workshops for the young people throughout the duration of the project.

The ability to offer sessions bilingually would be an advantage, although not all members of the group need to be Welsh speakers and non-Welsh speakers should still apply.

Experience of delivering workshops is an advantage, although support will be provided in the planning and delivery of sessions through Ty Cerdd.

This project is based in North Wales. The two centres will be Galeri in Caernarfon and Theatr Clwyd in Mold. The launch and final events will take place at Galeri in Caernarfon. The ability to travel to and between venues is essential.

Launch workshop/performance 24/09/22 (4 hours plus breaks)

Final event 26/11/22 (4 hours plus breaks)

Financial Information:

Launch event: £165 per group/ensemble member
Final event; £165 per group / ensemble member
Remuneration for travel expenses beyond a 30 mile radius and accommodation if required will be provided on approval beforehand.

Applicants should submit a proposal outlining their interest in being part of this project and what makes them suitable for the role, including how they would approach the project. Applicants may include links to sample music they might have on YouTube, Soundcloud or other as appropriate.
